Loquat fruits at Layog County Farm. Fruits growing in clusters are oval,rounded or pear-shaped. 1-2 inches Long with a smooth or downy, yellow or orange, sometimes red-blushed skin. The succulent tangy flesh is white, yellow or orange and sweet to subacid or acid, depending on the cultivar.(loquat)
Loquat is already a fruit plant which has been existing in Mt. Province for some time. But how these plants arrived at Layog Country Farm is another story. I was on vacation in France summer 2010 where these fruits are also in abundance. After we have been eating these loquat or “misporos”, “nisperos” as we call it locally in Kayan and Tadian respectively, I kept all the seeds and had it well packed in my travelling bag. I used the same bag travelling to the Philippines same year and opps the seeds were still there. The seeds ended up at Layog Country Farm and at the moment bearing fruits 6 years after it was planted.
